Alpha-tubulin protein is a globular protein that consists of approximately 450 amino acid residues and forms heterodimers with beta-tubulin to produce microtubules, the cytoskeletal filaments found in eukaryotic cells. The amino acid sequence of alpha-tubulin is highly conserved across eukaryotes, and contains a GTP-binding domain, which is important for regulating the assembly and disassembly of microtubules. Alpha-tubulin plays a crucial role in cell division, intracellular transport, and the maintenance of cell shape and polarity. Mutations in the alpha-tubulin gene have been linked to various diseases, including developmental disorders and cancer. The study of alpha-tubulin and its interactions with other proteins has important implications for understanding the basic biology of cells and the development of new therapies for human diseases.

PtX™ | Plant-Based Expression

The biotechnology behind the development and manufacture of this product, transient plant-based expression, effectively turns Nicotiana benthamiana plants into single-use, biodegradable bioreactors. Infiltrating this plant species with Agrobacterium tumefaciens cells, transformed with our proprietary plant expression vectors, allows rapid production of a wide variety of recombinant proteins. Plants are harvested and proteins extracted by various stages of filtration, clarification, purification, and polishing – resulting in a highly functional final product.
