The Spike Protein is the characteristic surface antigen of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), or 2019 Novel Coronavirus. Spike protein is assembled as a trimer consisting of S1 and S2 domains. The S1 domain of SARS-CoV-2 contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) located on target cells of human and bat hosts. Our plant-made recombinant monoclonal antibody recognizes an epitope within the coronavirus receptor binding domain (RBD) and binds a cross-reactive epitope also present in the novel coronavirus. CR3022 works well in ELISA and Western blot applications.

PtX™ | Plant-Based Expression

The biotechnology behind the development and manufacture of this product, transient plant-based expression, effectively turns Nicotiana benthamiana plants into single use, biodegradable bioreactors. Transforming Agrobacterium tumefaciens cells with our proprietary plant expression vectors, allows rapid production of a wide variety of foreign proteins. We then harvest the plants and extract the protein through various stages of filtration, centrifugation, and purification – providing our final product in the end.
